I almost wish they didn’t have a title (designer, choreographer, etc.) attached to them. There is a lot of variety, but what if the architect had scores of music and the fashion designer was studying typefaces and the composer’s pages were blocks of color? It could be argued that many of these sketchbooks are functional the way they are, but I guess I’m more interested in places where the crossfire happens, where ideas collide and inspire, and craziness ensues. This might have something to do with the fact that I’m incapable of thinking about one thing at once, but I don’t know. My sketchbooks aren’t as intense as any of these, and I’m not arguing that all sketchbooks should be epic. But for an exhibition “with the theme of ‘Mediterranean Design between Present and Future'”, I think it might have been important (or at least interesting…engaging?) to address the fact that so many of these professional titles are being traded and collected like Pokemon cards. What does it take for someone to consider themselves an architect, an artist, a designer, a musician? How do sketchbooks reflect that juxtaposition of positions held?

This reply started as a two-sentence comment, and then I sort of ranted. Then I stopped. Not in the spirit of the post. Haha. Sorry, Liza.
