I was looking on the internet to see if I could find any 3-D models or drawings of the assignment’s architecture on the internet. I found ten of the buildings for the summer assignment on a website called GreatBuildings.com in photograph, drawing, and model form. It was my first hit on google when I searched “maisons jaoul model”.
Despite how quick the search is, books will most likely be more fruitful because of the sketched out diagrams, thoughts of the architect, and in depth analysis of space or concept.

Wow, great start on locating and sharing information and resources. I picked famous projects to research for this reason, so it would be easy to find at least some images and drawings. The problem, you’ll soon see, is that the available 3D models are crude, the plans often diagrammatic and only one level, and the sections not very spatial, none of them articulating structural ideas very clearly. Existing “precedent studies” tend to be overly diagrammatic, not very “material,” focused more on geometry than structure. Be sure not to stop when you find one plan: keep searching for larger scale drawings, details, structural drawings, photos of the project under construction, etc., along with writings about the project, as you mention. You should be able to access many articles through full-text databases such as JSTOR (enter through CMU library home page, and use the WebVPN to access). If at all possible, see if you can visit a good architecture school library… Good luck, and email me with questions. – Kai
